Practice OwnerBill Prasad

Throughout my career, I have been entrusted with building behavioral health programs, leading multidisciplinary teams, and helping organizations deliver high-quality mental health care. Before founding Prasad Counseling and Training, I served in executive leadership positions for three psychiatric hospitals in Texas, where I directed inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services, supervised clinical and administrative teams, developed new treatment programs, and worked closely with psychiatrists, nurses, and hospital leadership to improve patient care. Earlier in my career, I served as Counseling Supervisor for Phoenix House of the Mid-Atlantic, where I developed outpatient substance use treatment programs, recruited and supervised clinicians, mentored graduate counseling interns, and helped establish evidence-based services for individuals and families struggling with addiction.

One of the most meaningful chapters of my career was serving as Director of Behavioral Health for the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, one of the nation’s largest career fire departments. There, I built and managed comprehensive behavioral health services supporting firefighters, law enforcement personnel, emergency medical providers, and their families. My responsibilities included  counseling, crisis response, peer support, chaplain services, family assistance, leadership consultation, and organizational wellness initiatives. I also designed one of the department’s military deployment support programs to help first responders serving in the Reserve and National Guard, providing care before deployment, while overseas, and throughout their return home.

Today, I bring that same leadership philosophy to Prasad Counseling and Training. I believe exceptional psychotherapy begins with exceptional clinicians. As Clinical Director, I personally recruit, interview, and mentor every therapist who joins our practice. Beyond reviewing credentials and experience, I look for clinicians who demonstrate sound clinical judgment, intellectual curiosity, humility, compassion, and a genuine commitment to evidence-based care. I continue to provide consultation, guidance, and support to our team so that clients receive thoughtful, ethical, and high-quality treatment. Every member of our practice shares a commitment to professional growth and to treating each client with respect, dignity, and cultural sensitivity.

In addition to clinical practice, I have spent more than two decades providing training and consultation to hospitals, corporations, government agencies, healthcare systems, and first responder organizations. My work includes leadership development, mental health education, addiction, trauma, stress management, organizational wellness, and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) following workplace tragedies and other traumatic events. Whether I am counseling an individual, leading.

“My journey from the newsroom to the therapy room to the boardroom, gives me an unrivaled mix of experience that has been put to work to train and hire a great team of therapists.”
